Material Availability Check in APO PPDS

Hello Experts,


We are in to a SAP APO PP/DS implementation project. We don’t have APO DP & SNP in place. We are doing planning in ECC & cif the planned orders into APO system.

Here we do the detailed scheduling & optimized the demand plan in executable manner. We are doing finite scheduling for available capacity.

Once the optimum planned is achieved, client wants the material availability check before releasing the final optimum plan to shop floor. By this time we have run the fixed pegging heuristic to make a relationship between SFG & FG. But If any packing material or raw material is not there than they do not want to include the same in to the plan.

Kindly suggest the functionality to do a full kitting in APO PPDS at the planned order level before freezing the monthly or weekly plan.

Hi Balraj,

Try using bottom up heuristics. This heuristic will try to see the receipt element at the bottom and then re-align the FG receipt element; i.e it will try to see the Purchase requisition time and then realign the first level orders; then first level orders can be used to re-align second level and finally the FG orders.

So orders having stock as receipt will be scheduled closure to the production; Plan Orders for whom Purchase reqs have been generated - purchase time will be considered and accordingly the Plan order will be moved further in future.

Hi Balraj

Do you already have APO GATP in landscape or you want to do availability check in ECC? In case you have/configure either of them, availability check can be triggered from ECC for Planned Order or during conversion of Planned Order into Production Order. I think you cannot call availability check directly from PPDS but I am not 100% sure.

We don’t have APO GATP in landscape and we want to do ATP check in APO only. Requirement is; before freezing the final/optimum monthly or weekly plan, planned wants to be 100% sure about material availability (SFG/RM/PM) at shop floor. We have configure certain setting in PPDS & GATP and being able to do ATP check in APO PP/DS planned orders.

Now the challenge is we have multiple storage location in plant but 3-4  storage locations are relevant for production activities. That means if stock is available in those SL which is production relevant than only we consider stock availability.


Please suggest, how to map this particular requirement in APO PPDS.

Hi Balraj

You can change stock category for those storage location using CIF Inbound user exit to say ZC so that they are no longer considered for scope of check. There is also an option to check at sublocation level but probably first option is a better one.

Hi Balraj,

The other option is to maintain Storage location MRP area in APO to separate the stock between storage locations. I think this will check the availability at the storage location level and confirm the material availability.
