Sales order line Route (VBAP-ROUTE)

When adding a line to a sales order, my new line does not determine a route until I save the order. I'm told that it should be doing standard route determination prior to the save.

Can anyone confirm this?

We're thinking there might be custom code preventing our route from determining in VA02 (new line entry on existing order).

During VA01 (initial order creation), a route on all sales order lines determines as normal prior to any save.
