Hello all,
I am struggling with getting the initial configuration of an HA RAC installation right.
I am just about to install a HA PI 7.30 system in Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 (well, its ASCS, SCS, ERS for ASCS and ERS for SCS first). My RAC cluster consists of two nodes, NodeA and NodeB. The ASCS and SCS will be installed in NodeA. I understand that I need to specify a virtual hostname for the installation. I do not understand though if this is a virtual hostname for the cluster or for NodeA where the installation will be taking place. Then I can go and configure it as per note 962955. I suspect that it is for NodeA. Could you please confirm that?
Going forward, I read in the installation guide for NW 7.30 that if I want to install ERS for ASCS and ERS for SCS in NodeB, I can use a virtual address (it doesn't say I must or I should so I assume that I could just use the physical address for NodeB. Is that right?
If I chose to use a virtual address, in the White Paper "Providing HA for SAP Resources with Oracle clusterware 11 Release 2",Page 10, when it refers to the installation of the ERS it reads: "The Enqueue replication instance does not require a VIP. Nevertheless, it's a good practice to use the same virtual hostname as the associated Enqueue instance"
So, I deduct that I only need one vitrual hostname/IP address for installing SCS and ASCS in NodeA and then I can reuse that VIP address to install ERS for ASCS and ERS for SCS in NodeB. Correct?
Many thanks
Andreas
