BO4.0: Universe based on Bex

Hi,

We use BO 4.0 to connect to Bex queries directly from WebI. For a particular report, we need to burst the instances to varied user groups. Since publisher demands a universe, we decided to create a universe from the Universe Design Tool, since it is easier to create.

Could you please advise me as to what is a better tool to create a universe in this case? The IDT or the UDT?

Can the IDT be used directly to work with Bex queries? As per my knowledge it cannot, since BICS connections are not supported.

And if the UDT is to be used, then should a relational connection be used to connect to the SAP BW cube?

Thanks ,

Vinayak

Hi Vinayak,

IDT is best tool for creating universe on top of Bex queries since its supports BICS connections.

When SAP BW 7.x is your source, BICS connections are recommended by SAP.

We strongly suggest to start using Information Design Tool as soon as you can, you will find that it is much easier than Universe Designer

UNV universes are kept for backwards compatibility, the future will be IDT + UNX and for SAP BW connectivity absolutely BICS, more powerful and performing.

Hi Ravi,

From what I have read, IDT does not support BICS connectivity and connects directly to the Infosource and not the Bex on top. Could you please confirm the same and point me at some relevant material in case it does. If it does support it will make life much easier.

Hi Vinayak

IDT supports to BICS it means it connected to inforsoruce / cube. But not to BEx.

THanks,

Raj
