What makes me so keen to log on to SDN each morning? Its the first thing I do when I switch my computer on!

Does anyone else find this forum addictive?

I am certainly not alone on this aspect. It is 12:04 midnight or is it 00:04am? Who cares? I will probably dream of a virtual place called SDN in my sleep.

Hi,

yes it's true : i think it's the reward points, which addict.

i'll be honestly: in the moment i come to sdn-abap-forum, to get points and honor - help is secondary - and this isn't ok.

so i'll cut down somewhat

...

all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any...

I am new to this form, and already addicted.

I have one request to everyone, we should have some get-togther party in our respective countries or states, if possible.

At least we should try.

May be once a year.

Hi Surpreet,

There was indeed a SDN Meets Labs event held very recently in Bangalore (July 3rd-4th). Since you're a new user here, you may not have known about it. But keep watching for such events and attend them when you can.

There's SAP Tech Ed coming up in October and Bangalore is one of the venues for that. you may expect to meet a couple of SDNers at that event as well.

Anand Mandalika.

Thanks for mentioning that, Anand.

I will add that there will be plenty of opportunities for SDNers to meet in each of 4 locations internationally:

Vienna 21-23 September

Boston 27-30 September

Bangalore 05-07 October

Tokyo 25-26 October

https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/sapteched.sdn

The SDN Clubhouses will be teeming (teaming) with SDNers and lots of opportunity for professional and social interactions.

cheers,

Marilyn

Thanks Anand.

Sure I will try my best to attend the SDNers meet in Banglore. But Chandigarh to Banglore is very long route. Let's hope for the best.

But at least Bangalore is not as far as Tokyo , Vienna or Boston What do you say ?

Am I addicted?

First thing I do when I am in front of the computer is to log into SDN. Checking EMails, news, work etc are secondary.

I had just returned from two months of vacation globe-trotting and the only reason I am glad that my vacation is over, is because now I can log into the wonderful world of SDN.

The first explorer window that I open on my system is for SDN, then keep refreshing it for watching new posts, trying to find their solutions!!.

Its really a wonderful addiction, indeed.

Welcome to all the new participants of this forum. Although being a "quiet" participant also has its place, we do encourage being an active participant. I have seen the transition many make from question asker to question answerer and it is very exciting and gratifying.

Also each question made visible probably represents many other voices who wanted to ask the same question but were too shy.

Don't be intimidated the first few times if you are sent to an already answered thread. Do use the search and advanced search. One often does find answers to ones questions before even asking them by this method.

If you find a helpful answer do reward it! This really encourages folks to continue to provide value.

Be addicted! It is a healthful one.

cheers,

Marilyn

Hi,

I find the forum really helpful, so, for that reason I would not call it addictive. It is more like opening your giant electronic SAP glossary.

Really It is very helpfull all areas, I am in BW past 3 years Its really very nice and good discussion forum.

Thanks

Well,

I dont have millions posts in this forum, I dont answer questions, actualy, I´m the kind of who makes the questions.

The reason why I open the SDN forum every morning, it´s beacuse the forum very organized, clean, and the most important: you find answers

The rewards system makes the thing more exciting too

That´s my pragmatic opinion regarding our pathological adiction

It's thoughts like that make me want to open SDN each and everyday - the users here ROCK!!!

I have to reiterate what my SDN colleagues posted earlier - seeing this kind of wonderful feedback on SDN really makes my day! Knowing that the work we do here at SDN positively impacts people's work lives is a great feeling. Of course, SDN is nothing without you, loyal SDNers. It is your unfailing enthusiasm for the SDN community and your dedication to giving back to the community so that others may benefit as you have, that makes the SAP Developer Network a true community, and a truly great community!

It's very encouraging to get this feedback!

It's what makes our work all that more worth while.

SDN is what it is thx to you - the community.

Keep up the wonderful work and keep sending us feedback on any improvements and suggestions!

Will SDN be the next

...or am I just being over cautious about my addictions??

Sooner or later people are going to figure out what SAP is putting into the messages here....

Craig,

I think it's some kind of a stimulator. In fact not just one but it seems stimulators are being cocktailed.

Should be tested for banned substances..that will probably save a few lives from getting obsessed.

But that's of no use for those who are already into it..

BTW...Guys ..

After more than 45 days of hard work now I am almost at the top of the charts on ABAP forum....

Ok ..ok..I mean at the second page

Cheers,

Ram

Yaa Craig,

I mean it's different to be 21st on ABAP forum compared to 2nd overall

And now I think I am going to miss a few cocktails and enjoy being at the top......of 2nd page ( How does that matter!! It's better than being somewhere lost in the middle of the first page )

21st,

Hi Marilyn,

Thanks for noticing it but then one good reason you did -- I was marketing myself well

How else would you explain someone being noticed even while being at the bottom of the 1st page?

Thanks anyway…..but now it's going to be difficult for me to answer on SDN for next 15 days. I am on leave and currently in my hometown, Allahabad, very far from Bangalore, at least if you consider unit of measurement in “Hours”.

Practically speaking, similar to “Light Years”, “Hours” has been perfectly acceptable UOM for distance.

Contrary to whatever I said, earlier I thought I will be contributing more than usual while enjoying my holidays, with my parents, in Allahabad.

Not that my parents will help me in getting a few problems solved and let me accumulate the points ….they will surely answer the queries with their own IDs on SDN

I just realized that connecting to internet from 30000 fts above the ground, in the sky, can be technically challenging…. but it will still be a lot more easier and faster.....comparing the accessibility from the ground having a few ground realities to cope with.

Nevertheless, it's still satisfying that I am connected and after a few refreshes ( 15 ..Not sure about the count( * ) though ) , now I am able to read your message. Further, I am writing this message in MS Word and it will be exciting to see this getting posted successfully.

But this is nothing. I am planning to visit my native village and will try to get my laptop connected to internet and then write a few lines on SDN ….

To give you an idea …for me the excitement gonna be the same as being on the moon and then get an ERP implemented, a SAP Netweaver, over there. I added SAP implementation here, to make you understand the complexity, just in case you think reaching over the moon is not so difficult.

Remember, guys @ SAP have still not considered planets and satellites in their master data so you need to somehow manage it with country codes. And in case you are converting quantity with any weight-unit, you might need to consider the gravity conversion since g-moon = g-earth / 6 ( Not sure though…long time, no physics ).

Time Data ( GMT + How many hrs ? )…..ok, now you believe me, it will be complex.

I might declare the birth of a Superpower ( India ), just moments after posting my SDN message from my native village…or else.. got to wait for a few more years!!!

And considering that it might take a while before I’ll be able to write again, you must not complain about the length of this posting

BTW...did you also notice that I am still 18th with 300 points -- in SDN ABAP Forum

Someone needs a lesson in marketing??

Now 18th,

Ram

What a great thread to read, you have made my day. Thank you!

You are all fantastic! All of you keep this community going - feed, nurture, and love it - and we at SDN truly appreciate it. I hope you don't mind me forwarding this thread to the "powers that be" at SDN as they like to hear a little feedback once in awhile

Keep up the great work and continue to let us know how we can make your community "experience" even better.

Great to hear that I am not the only one with the addiction (although its obvious if you watch the number of posts that people make).

And whats this I see? The lure is so strong we even have some non-abapers sucked into the black hole that is the abap forum. We need to lift our entrance standards...

Any other people out there who just can't get enough?

I have crossed the line also. SDN links have been added to all three of my personal systems at home. (including my husband's office machine and the laptop on the boat). It is very informative. I have been able to find most everything I am looking for and good info that I can use for future projects.

<i>"let me just complete this post and I will get back to you..."</i>

This is what I find myself saying to my other colleagues at workplace, several times a day. And since it is not as if I'm playing a game of Solitaire or Minesweeper, they usually try to understand. But not always, though :-).

Hi

The innocent anomaly has the symptom as Brad told that the first thing when you switch on to your computer is to log on to SDN.

I think we just feel ourselves happy by sharing or view what is shared. And I guess, SDN means much more than other forums since it has the SAP logo behind it and the way it is structured.

That is why, all we have fantastic ideas to be added to the SDN although the architects are so busy. I believe the synergy here can achieve lots of things. And I expect a great anonymous project to be triggered where SDN is in fact one :).

I like the SDN ecosystem and feel very comfortable among you.

Cheers
