Do I need to install an instance or just create an RFC from java engine to ABAP engine.

Hi,

Let me put my question straight.I have java engine installed on my R/3 server(is that the only requirement for java instance or I have to do other installation on top of java engine)

secondly:I want to integrate both JAVA stack and ABAP stack bothways(i.e. java->abap and abap->java).

Can you please suggest some solution on it.

There are 3 type of SAP WAS installation---ABAP atack,J2ee Add-on Engine,J2ee Only Engine.

SAP software is basis on these three WASs. So what to install is desided by your business scenario.

And I think you have install R/3 on ABAP, and a J2EE add-on Engine, but I am not sure of your business scenario.

--secondly:I want to integrate both JAVA stack and ABAP stack bothways(i.e. java->abap and abap->java).

I guess your want to connect R/3 with Java. so topic about JCO maybe your interest. Just search JCO in SDN webloggs a lot of informations here. Maybe your do not need Java Add-on ,and just a JCO solution.

Wish this helps

Folks, I don't he's asking how to install the Java stack (he mentions it's already installed). He's really asking how to make the 2 stacks communicate:

"Do I need to install an instance or just create an RFC from java engine to ABAP engine."

So can you define more clearly which direction you want to communicate? From ABAP to J2EE or from J2EE to ABAP or both?

From ABAP to J2EE you can use/can create an RFC destination in SM59 (what you mentioned) that points to the J2EE stack.

From J2EE to ABAP you can use the SAP JCO connector.

You can install the JAVA stack either on the machine running the ABAP instance

Or on a separate host.

From a DVD? There is a special installation there that makes your Java server an integrated environment with the ABAP stack. There also should be some samples that show this (unfortunately it lays some time back I had to deal with 6.20). Examples are also available here in SDN
