Creating References

Hi All,

I am new on this forum, but using BO for a couple of months now. I am trying to create formulas that work like vlookup in excel. It means I have a number of countries, and I would like to group these countries by region, for example France will be Europe, Chicago will US,...However I would like to do it without using the If formulas, as it's gonna be a long list. Is there a way to create a second table and then reference my country table to the regions?

Thanks all.

Agnès

PS: I am not IT minded just a user so I can't creat objects, but only variables and formulas.

Hi Agnès
I'm not sure if you are a report writer or a user who is altering current reports, but either way you should go back to the owner of the Report or Universe that the report is based upon and get this information incorporated
If you want countries and cities grouped this is something that almost every user would want and it should be made available to all the users.  Honestly I am very surprised it is not already available since it is a simple thing universe designers would do.  The basic principle is that the reports should be as simple as produce so anything more difficult should be pushed back to the universe or the data source level - you should not have to create something terribly complicated in the report that can be done simply in the universe
I hope this helps

Thank you Ian.

Exactly this is the problem , I am just an user, and I agree with you this should be quite easy for a designer to build these objects within the Universe, as we are all the time creating formulas, for each report and it takes time.

Thanks all for your help and advices!

Hi Agnès

Try creating sections in the report on the continent and country columns, that way you will see the countries grouped under each continent.

Thanks,
