Is SQL database backup sufficient if SAP system crashed?

Dear Experts,

I just wonder whether the following recovery steps works if SAP system crashed (might due to disk crash) and I have the SQL database Full Backup only.

1) Reinstall Windows Server 2008

2) Reinstall MS-SQL 2008

3) Reinstall SAP ECC6

4) Restore SQL database full backup.

Will all the customization and configuration restored by doing the above steps?

regards,

Abraham

I hope you are asking this question regarding ABAP System only...

In case SAP System crashed,if you have full backup, you can re-build the new system till the time stamp of your full backup. But if you need to recover it at the latest level, you need to apply the online transactional logs.

    I would follow following steps:-

Reinstall OS and DB instance --> Instead of new installation use System copy.

System Copy will create the new system using the available full backup.

    Cheers,

    Vishal

    Hi,

SQL backup strategies are as below:

Full database backup - Takes a complete dump of your database

Differential database backup - Takes only the changes happend after a full database backup

Transactional log backup - Takes only the recent changes happend after a differential backup

Recovery depends on the backup sets that you use, you can recover the full data if you have full+diff+transactional log.
