Visual Composer and NDS

Hi ,

I want to know about when to choose visual composer and when to opt for NetWeaver Developer Studio.

Is their document which compares them both. What advantage does visual composer give... If visual composer is good.. why do we need Netweaver Developer Studio.

Any inputs in this regard are welcome...

Hi

VC and NWDS are portal content design tools but are positioned at two different levels.

VC is mainly used by a Business Expert to create interactive forms. A busines expert identifies the need of a business scenario and he will configure the existing application to meet the business needs.

NWDS is mainly used by the Business Application developer to develop business objects. VC will make use of these objects to create a business scenario.

So there is a clear distinction between portal content creation and portal content development.

NWDS -- Developing portal content/Business component development

VC -- Creating portal content/Business scenario creation

There are many documents available in SDN on NWDS and VC.

I hope this will answer your question.

Hi,

Does it mean that we cannot create any application from scratch using Visual Composer.

If we have components with us we can jus relate them and make them a full scal application? Is it right?

So does it mean that without tools like NWDS ,ABAP backend systems ..visual composer is useless !

Then how can a business expert by himself create a application..if its dependent in NWDS ?Then what purpose does it solve?

Hi

It is not possible to develop an application right from scratch using VC. It is just a tool to relate the business components to create a business scenario.

VC depends only on the deployed business components/objects like BAPIs,Stored Procedures, etc which are avaialble in your Portal landscape. It has no relationship with the NWDS.

VC is not a universal remedy. You still require tools like NWDS, ABAP Workbench etc to create these business components.

The advantage is Business Expert doesnt need to know the coding and he can easily demonstrate a business scenario with a few drag and drops.

Hopefully in the future relases SAP may integrate all these tools to create an All In One solution.

Some time ago I posted a weblog and an article, which talks about the differences of VC and NDS and what it is aiming at:

Perhaps this helps a little bit to clarify some questions and where SAP is going...

Hi,

NWDS is the more flexible of the two tools as it allows manual coding; however, SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer removes the potential for coding errors by generating the code from the graphical UI.

SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer can be locally installed on a laptop or desktop PC, and can also be installed for central users on a remote server. NWDS can only be installed locally.

SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer needs Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), Microsoft SQL Server on the computer that hosts the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer application, and both Microsoft XML Parser 4.0 and Adobe Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 3.0 Viewer on the workstation accessing SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer. NWDS needs only the Java 1.4 (or higher) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be installed.

Hi,

Just a small correction to the post above - the new version of Visual Composer is not running on a dedicated IIS/SQL server configuration. Instead Visual Composer is now part of NetWeaver 04s stack (Generally Available starting with SP8), and by installing it, you also get Visual Composer.

Hi ,

I cant understand what the limitation is in visual composer.

It seems to do everything which WebDynpro does. What is its limitations?

Is it that we cant develop a full blown application in Visual composer .?

What do u exactly mean content creation and content development ? I am not able to make out the difference.

Please do share ur ideas in this regard!

Thanks

Hi

You cant do everything in VC that WebDynpro does.

VC is very much like a component assembler. It just assembles the components developed using other development tools like NWDS web dynpro.

You cant develop a component in VC where as it is possible in web dynpro. Again VC is a code free design/modelling tool.where as webdynpro development involves a lot of coding.

Hi

Search for a presentation with the key "visual composer positioning" in SDN. And download the prsentation with the name "visual composer 6" from the result list.
