ORACLE11g advanced compression performance

Hello,

I'm testing the compression of a SAP ECC database with 3TB of size and an old tablespace layout.

I'm doing the data compression with a tablespace reorganisation as described in SAP note 1431296.

Are there any esential tips for improving performance for data compression (ORACLE parameters, bugs ...)?

What does it mean "compression for oltp" in tablespace creating, is it necessary?

Regards,

Wolfgang

    Hi,

Have you already checked following SAP Notes:

1436352 - Oracle 11g Advanced Compression for SAP Systems

1431296 - LOB conversion and table compression with BRSPACE 7.20

      Hi,

i usually follow SAP Note 1431296, and i don't set "Compression for OLTP" in the tablespace creation, because i move to the new tablespace all the tables. Some table have not to be compressed.

I don't set any particular parameter. If you want to reorg online the DB (while end-users are using the system as usual), make sure the onlire redolog are well-tuned, to avoid slowness of the system usage.

      Regards

    Hello Wolfgang,

we discussed one issue some time ago with OLTP compression and LONG RAW columns:

    http://scn.sap.com/thread/1942366

I have done a lot of OLTP compression activities in the last time and have seen no real performance issue in a SAP environment (except that one from the thread above).

    Regards

    Stefan
