Query on Equipments and Object Id

Hello All,

Need to implement CRM service module for our customer with warranty scenario's existing, I have the following queries?

1) Finished Product materials would be created in SAP ECC system do these materials also need to be classfied as equipments if we need to map them to the warranty material created in SAP CRM?,

2) If they are created as equipments what is the link between the finished product and the equipments?

2) In the installed base what is the object id stand for?

Hi Atul

1. Yes we need to create equipments to assign warranties.

2.Equipments are different than material in ECC. Equipment actually uniquely identifies the material.

IE01 is the transaction to create the equipment and MM01 is to create the material.

Every equipment will refrence to some material.

3.Object Id in installtabse will actually refer to the equipment id(ECC).

Thanks for your reply with regards to your replies, I have a few queries

1) If I do not create my material as equipment in ECC and only replicate the ECC material in CRM and assign a warranty material to it then will the warranty be determined in my CRM service order? or as you said for warranty to get determined it needs to be classfied as equipments

2) In the SAP ERP system what is the relationship between equipment and material will both of them have the same id, when you say equipment uniquely identifies the material could you elaborate on this. is there any linking in the system through material class or any other object? Assuming I have created a material having id A and I have also created an equipment having Id B how do both of them get linked in the ERP system?

Hi Atul,

Equipment and material are two different thing. First we create a Material it can be of item category group "Norm' and then we create a equipment in which we assign this material.

Like for eg: An electronic manufacture company manufacture Television of model "ABC" so in there material master they will be one material with name as 'ABC" now every television which is manufacture will have it own unique no. so that service executive can track the device for it servicing / warranty / maintenance etc.....

For this process Equipment is created which is assigned to materail "ABC" with this process now user can identify which television set is to be servicing / warranty / maintenance etc.. and it belong to which model.

Warranty assignment will be done at Equipment level only because warranty start date is purely depended on equipment selling date. So warranty product assignment will be done in CRM at install base (once Equipment is downloaded to CRM it is called as install base)

Hi Ankush,

Thanks for your reply when you say you create the equipment that is done in the PM module however when I link this to the material is this done through serial number profile or is there any tab in the material master data where I can link my equipment created to my material?
