Hi All,

I wanted to know how can I relate characteristics with its values? So if I have a characteristic 9AMATNR APO Product how do values get assigned to it?

Thanks,

Harsh.

Characteristic values are BW master data and can be maintaind in transaction RSDMD. If you CIF materials to APO, you can get descriptions of materials in the planning books without maintaining descriptions as BW master data.

Hi Harsh,

Mostly history data would get extracted from R/3 to BW, and this is where the BW team would take care of mapping the R/3 material to the material characteristic in BW. This is possible in standard SAP, or otherwise BW team could use custom characteristics to get the values for materials.

Then when you get data from BW to APO, you would do a mapping of the material characteristic in BW to the material characteristic in APO. This could again be standard SAP, or you could use custom characteristics to get values for materials.

You could also understand above in the light that many a times in BW and in APO, we could add a prefix or suffix to the material which comes from R/3 so that it is easy to identify which R/3 system the material is coming from. (This is more relevant when you have multiple R/3 systems connected to BW or APO systems)

Mostly, no-one would manually take care of creating CVCs or characteristic values, the above process would take care of creation of CVCs, and having values for the characteristics like 9AMATNR, 9ALOCNO or whatever characteristics you use for material, location, etc.
