Export > Text is dropping period that falls at start of line

I'm using Crystal 2008 to export text as part of a database publishing workflow. The text being exported is a simple paragraph with a varying amount of text, generally about 1500 chars.

In the exported .txt file, when a period in the text happens to fall at the beginning of a line, it is discarded. Everything else comes through OK, but the period is lost. Other than this, it works the way it should.

Is this a known issue, and is there any workaround?
