NW2004 -> DISP+WORK.EXE doesn't start

Hi,

I installed NW2004 SP11. Everything worked fine. When I start the sap system only the msg_server process is running but not the disp+work process. What might be the reason for this and how can it be solved?

System Settings:

Win XP

Java: Java 2 Runtime Environment, STandard Edition (build 1.5.0_22-b03)

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Can you check to see if the following is applicable in your system?

- Check if the SAPSTARTSRV.EXE is not a compatible version with the
disp+work.exe.this usually occurs when the the two exes are at
different levels.

- There is a lot of very good information in the following 2 OSS notes:
  #396309    Dispatcher remains yellow, although the system is running
  #142100    NT: Problems with new SAP service as of Rel. 4.5

- Are you having sapstartsrv.exe at both location, c:\windows\system32
and the ..sys\exe\run. ? Is your <SID>_00 service started by sapstartsrv
from the ..sys\exe\run, instead of c:\windows\system32 ?

You can also check the entry in the registry for the <SID>_00 service

Also, often this occurs if the MMC is open during the patch update
process it restarts the sap service and the sapstartsrv.exe does not get
replaced.

And also can you kindly check if the note 1375494 could resolve your issue.

Please apply note 1375494 to install
'Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package'.

Please use the link specified below.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en

Scroll down to Files in the download and click on the file applicable to
your system requirements and download it.

Execute the downloaded binary by double-clicking on it and follow
the instructions.

Then reboot Windows and try to start the system again.

Thank You.

Hi Michael,

You have not given us very much to go on

The usual starting point for debugging startup issues is the ...\usr\sap\<SID>\DVEBMGSnn\work directory.  I sort the files by date/time and start looking at each file to determine where the error first starts occurring, and what the actual problem is.

However, one thing I do know that causes issues is that the Windows releases of SAP do not work on XP Home Edition.
