Hi Friends,

As i have two Power Servers running in AIX 6.1 with oracle 10g in HACMP in which SAP application is running.

The one is standalone Database and other is central Instance.

I have done the 11g upgrades successfully in my DEV and QAS servers which are non-cluster Environment.

Now i want to do the same upgrade in PRD which is in HACMP.

Please let me know what are the areas should i concentrate specially for cluster environment servers.

Thanks,

Hari

Hello all together,

there is a SAP Note linking to all relevant documentation you need: 1379340.

There are three major things:

1) to make the solutions work you have to install your oracle with a virtual hostname, not the hostname of the LPAR.

2) You have to evaluate if you can use the Product Smart Assist comming from PowerHA 7.1 onwards on no charge and get full product support for the scripts on top out of one hand. The other solution IBM provides is a Summary of "Best Practices" you are free to use, but without any support.

3) How to splitup the mountpoints into the diffrernt volumes wii depend on the solution you are using. The documentation will come along for whatever solution you shoot for.

Hello Hari,

Speak to your UNIX guys (if you are unsure) as to which filesystems are included in the HACMP cluster.

Identify which directories would be needed to be manually synced.

Filesystems such as the following exists locally in a typical HACMP cluster:

/etc

/home

Hence you will need to manually sync user environments for ora<sid> and <sid>adm (as described by Bhavik earlier), as well as key files such as /etc/oratab, /etc/oraInst.loc

Hope that helps.

Hi Hari,

The Procedure for Database Upgrade will be same in Clustered environment unless DB is installed with RAC/ASM.

You need to refer official Upgrade Guide Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): UNIX  step by step to perform Oracle Upgrade. As a part of Post Upgradation steps , you will required to sent some required environment variables for ora<sid> user.
