What Listener plays role for SAP ECC6.0 server ???

Hi Expert,

I am new to BASIS.

I am facing a strange issue.

When i stop listener service in my SAP system, I am still able work on my SAPGUI and do the changes in system and my database.

R3trans -d shows database not connected.

As far as i know, Listener is used for connecting the database at R/3 level.

Please tell me what is happening.
