hello to all!

does anyone know if it is possible to move a database from one server to another one?

i am asking because a colleague made a backup from the database which was in server A, restored it to the server B and unfrotunatelly, by trying to make an invoice a message is displayed about document series. i checked the document series and numbering and is right.

i tried to do the same action in the server A and i did not have any problem.

do tyou know if the problem is the movement of the database from one server to another?

Hi,

you can move database by backup or detach the database from one server to other server as long as the database platform between both server is same or at least one of them is higher version than other.

What I mean here if the server A installed with SQL server 2008 R2 std edition SP1, then the server B must also have the same SQL version or higher version.

So, you can move the database from server A to B or vice versa only for the same sql server version. But you can't move the database to the lower version of SQL server. Example the database is created or restored in the sql server 2008 R2 std edition, and you restored to sql server 2008 std edition. You will fail if you do that.

hi,

the answer is YES. you can move one Database from one Server to another Server. you can use two methods to move database

  1. backup and restore database
  2. detached and attached database

to resolve the document numbering series Goto

  1. Administration
  2. System Initializatin
  3. Document Numbering

Set the default Period indicator
