Here is another possible solution from SAP note #1669863:

1669863  - User-Defined Field cannot be added for specific object
Version   1   Validity: 03.01.2012 - active
Language   English

Content:      Summary    |    Header Data    |    References    |    Validity

Symptom

When you try to add new User-Defined Field for specific object (for example Business Partners or Items or Marketing Documents header data or rows...) below error is displayed:

"Internal Error (1) occurred [Message 131- 183]".

This error is triggered by SQL limitation of data length of table row which is 8060 bytes.

Cause

Application error

Solution

SAP intends to provide a patch or patches in order to solve the problem described.

The section Reference to Related Notes below will list the specific patches once they become available.

The corresponding Info file of the patches in SAP Service Marketplace will also show the SAP Note number.

Be aware that these references can only be set at patch release date.

SAP will deliver patches only for selected releases at its own discretion, based on the business impact and the complexity of the implementation.

Remark:

After the fix for this issue is delivered there will be a different error message displayed for user:

"SQL Server limitation for row data length  (8060 bytes)"

Hi kilaru,

If the solution from these threads:

http://scn.sap.com/thread/1256793

http://scn.sap.com/thread/1124752

can't solve your problem and you are sure that the sap note is the correct solution, I suggest to upgrade to SAP B1 8.82. I suggest it because there is no SAP B1 8.82 in the validity part of the sap note above.

After upgrade but the problem still exists, you can create ticket to SAP support.

Hi,

The exact solution for your case is to apply the sap note.

The sap note informed that the problem is only able to solved by upgrading to SBO 8.81 PL11.

If you check the note, there is a sentence "sap business one note"and then followed by the words: "

1681770   Overview Note for SAP Business One 8.81 patch 11

So, it means that the sap note #1669863 explains the error message like you face now and in the sap note 1681770, you will find the sap note #1669863. Through sap note 1681770 we can see all of problems that fixed in SAP B1 8.81 Patch 11.

So, I suggest you to upgrade to SBO 8.81 PL11 in the test server prior to upgrade the live server. I suggest you to upgrade so that you can see if the problem solved in this version or not. If solved, you must upgrade to this version but if it's still not solved, Try to upgrade to SBO 8.82 PL04. if also not solve, create ticket to SAP support.

Another possiblity cause of error is the udf type and its structure are input with incorrect value or amount. So you must also check it.

Can you provide the screen shoot of udf property and the error message warning in message bar of SAP B1 that appears when you add the document ?

JimM

Hi,

Thx for the screen shot.

Based on the error message I see in the screen shot, the problem is noted by sap support in the sap note.

Here is the sapnote #:

1669863  - User-Defined Field cannot be added for specific object.

So, the solution for your problem is to upgrade to SAP B1 8.81 PL11. That's the solution from the sap note.

JimM
