RCA on BW-BO long running Report

Hello Gurus,

I have created a Business layer (universe) through IDT on top of a BW - DSO. DSO has 5 fields in Data part, 1 in Key part and 2 Measures.

Data volume is just 55 records. It's a simple star schema between Fact table and some dimension tables.

When i created a query on top of the business layer, it takes 77000 ms just to retrieve 17 rows with 3 column to display.

In Webi rich client too the run time goes like this, i am afraid what would be the situation for my gigantic cubes how long the query will run.

Being a BW consultant, i do remember our ST12, ST05 work process level,SQL and ABAP trace to do a Root cause Analysis. Does BO provides anything similar to that which would give me a breakup of the runtimes.

Can we activate any log in CMS to do a diagnosis. Please suggest.

Thanks,

Tilak

Hi,

No, there is no transaction with a workload monitor to check runtimes for background processes... it's all tracelog level in BO. (although there is a Monitoring application in CMC which might show CPU/JVM bottlenecks)

If this is a new topic for you, this is going to be a serious challenge.

Here is the note you need to consider: 1561226 - BI 4.0 - How to troubleshoot MultiSource universes

Yes, some 'execution plan' tuning can be done using the Data Federation Administration Tool.

Also, some quick gains will come if you have sized your Data Federation (APS) service correctly.

How can we activate this Tracelog in BO? will it give me the detailed level analysis for a BO report..sort of what our SQL/ABAP traces give.

Could you please help me in understanding this.

Hi,

With all due respect, if you are having to ask 'where to i set the traces' at this early stage... this is a going to be a long and painful excercise.

The information you're asking is already decribed in the notes i referenced previously.
