Can the BO client tool run in 3-tier mode?

Hi,

Does anybody know if it is possible to run the BO client tools in 3-tier mode during the desing of reports and universes?

As far as I can tell the client tools (Webi desktop, UDT, IDT, Crystal reports) will in design mode always try to access data directly (1-tier mode) using the database middleware installed on the client.

However, I wonder if it is possible also to run design of reports and universes in a 3-tier mode where the client tools will fetch data via the BO platform and not directly from the database.

Any ideas / input?

Hi,

Yes, both Crystal for Enterprise and WebIntelligence Desktop Rich Client applications can be opened in 3-tier mode. (however, a local client tool installation is required as a prerequisite)

the trick is to go to BILaunchPad preferences, webi / crystal,  and for "design/edit mode" , select "Desktop" rather than Web / Java viewers.

For webi particularly, you will see a J2EE.extranet key land in the C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My SAP BusinessObjects Documents\LocData  folder.  In the login screen, this will be denoted by a

Globe icon in the 'system' field. Else, in 2-tier mode, it will be a graphic of a Computer.
