SBO 2005B PL14 upgrade

Hi All -  We have a long upgrade to ahead of us. We want to get to the latest version. I have a pretty good idea on how to get there but it I have one hurdle to get over. It seems I can't find any compatibility info on 2005B any more. We are currently running SQL 2005 SP2 but I first need to get this to SP4 for a vCenter upgrade. ( or would like too) Can anyone tell be if 2005B PL14 is compatible with SQL2005 SP4?

Thanks for any insight.

Hi,

Yes the SQL Server 2005 SP4 is compatible but much better upgrade your SBO to the latest version 8.82, 2005 may lost support soon. Again you may try creating a test server for this, to pre check for errors and other issues.

Thanks.

Hi,

SInce SAP B1 2005B has out of support of scope and maintenance, I am not sure if  SQL 2005 SP4 is compatible with SAP B1 2005B or 2005A release.  it is because the SP4 release is on Dec 17th, 2010. In 2010, the SAP B1 2005B has been out of support and maintenance.

Another info, you may apply the SQL 2005 SP4 but if you use windows server 2008R2, it won't be supported.

I suggest to upgrade SAP B1 to 8.82 PL4 and the sql is upgrade to Sql 2008 R2. The server operating system is upgrade to windows 2008 R2 std or enterprise edition.

You would be better to try in the test server to make sure if the SQL server 2005 SP4 is applicable to SAP B1 2005B or not.

More info about SAP B1 platforms can be obtained from this link:

Thanks for the insight Jimmy.

Question - I often see references to a "Test Server". How exactly is a "Test Server" built? Is this just a second machine with SBO and SQL installed with the license pointed to the production system? Or is a test system a completely independent instance of SBO and SQL with a "test" license?

Hi Jason,

you are welcome.

You are correct that the test server is a test system a completely independent instance of SBO and SQL with a "test" license?

You can use a temporary license to make your sap test server is working properly.

Jimmy, dumb question, to set up this test system do you have to make a complete new install of SAP BO, and then restore the production DB into it? If so you need the current versión of SAP BO software right?

   Thank you

Yes, that's right. In the test, there must be available either SAP B1 and production db. The scenario is to test the compatibility of SAP B1 2005B Pl14 with SQL server 2005 SP4.

If not compatible, better to use SQL server 2008 R2 std edtion.
