Can emails be sent outside of SAP user group. I see that we can add only SAP users in fixed alert recipents screen. If limited to SAP users, this would be considered as a serious constraint for us. In case of 3rd party messages, message alerts are subscribed by people outside of SAP realm.
How are others handling this requirement.
Thank you,

Michal,
Thanks for your prompt response. This is something I'm aware of. I can go to SU01 and include the external email address and use SMTP to get the message accross to another system like Exchange.
What we would like is to avoid creating SAP user id each time we want to send data to a third party person. Is this the only way?
Ex: We will interface with several AS/400 systems. If the message has meaningful failure, we would like to notify the concerned AS/400 user who does not get on
the SAP box. We would not want create SAP ID for these users.
Similarly, we will have EDI notifications.
Look forward to hearing from you or other folks.
Thank you,
Parimala

Hi,
it depends what kind of message failures you're trying to intercept:
1. if this is the XI failure then probably someone who knows XI should be the one to be notified (so he has SAP user id)
2. if you're trying to somehow validate the message in XI mapping for instance, you can try using a standard mail adapter if a field is missing... but validation should be on the sender side I guess...

Michal,
If there is a message failure, we would like to notify the sender party to resend message with the latest data.
Some of these sender systems are really old and there will be cases where there may not be sufficient validation done.
I do understand your point but the users require the flexibility of sending it notification to external email ids.
thanks,

Hi,
we created dummy SAP user ids as this is limited to only a handful users, e.g. we created mailgroups and assign the mailgroup address (like helpdeskandsupport@....) to a dummy SAP user id. Therefore we needed only about 5 new users and that is still acceptable as a workaround.
Cheers
Stefan
Hi,
but you cen redirect SAP users mails to go to external mail server
(Exchange for instance)

I've seen it many times but this is rather a WAS topic I believe
