Import/Export Functionality with Excel

Hello,

I am trying to use the import/export features of the table tool. When I export a table I only get a text file of the data in my table. I would like this in an Excel or Word file. When I import an Excel file, only the first line of my table is showing up and is both a header and the first row of the table. Am I missing something here and are there any tutorials on this? I can only find a basic upload tutorial.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

The data is exported as CSV file. If you want to open this in Excel 2010 you need to go to the "Data" tab  and select "From Text". This will launch a wizard which guides you through the import process.

Importing an Excel file should work without problems. If I remember correctly the import stops when it reaches a blank link. The first line is interpreted as header. If this does not solve the import problem you would probably need to share the Excel here.

Thanks Rüdiger for the response. The import feature appears to be working now. I do not see the table export opening into a .csv file however. I just get what looks like a new webpage. There are no options to select from. I get an error message when I try to save the export before opening it. The image below is what i get when I export and open the file.

Hi Chris,

This looks like some browser setting. I know that there is a setting which you can use to dermine if Office files should be opened within IE or with the respective Office application. Some Google search might help.

I only found this link: http://www.niu.edu/erptraining/PS_browser_settings/ie9.shtml#excel but I am not sure if this really helps.

The browser setting was the problem. Now it works. Thanks again!
