Content Server switch. Loadbalancer

Hi,

We are using a Cisco loadbalencer to distribute load between our productive servers. We are running an EP6 on WAS6.20 and we have the following problem: Sometimes the portal on one of our productive servers goes down, when this happens the users that are using the specific server are naturally thrown off the portal. This is not a big problem in it self but the real problem is that our Loadbalener can not see that the portal is down (since the server is still running) and therefore continues to send users to this server. This effect is enhanced since the load is zero when the portal is down; all users are distributed to this specific server, e.g. No users can access the portal when the portal on one server goes down.

Is there any way to configure a Cisco Loadballencer, so that it makes sure that there is a portal running on a server before it distributes users to that server?

Any documentation would be very nice as well.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Best regards

Kris

Hi,

we use very similar configuration with load balancer from CS11500 family. It is possible to detect that portal server is down by means of some stupid HTML page hosted by portal, let's say http://portal_host/test.html. If response returns HTTP OK code, portal is taken as up. I do not know technical details, ask cisco expert, mainly if you have productive portal.

I just made a similar offer to another SDN member, Kris Kagel, whom you responded to regarding a Cisco product configuration, that I'd like to offer to you as well.

I just started at Cisco as a resource focused on our solutions for SAP customers. Specifically I am focused on the load balancer and related products.

Are there any issues with the Cisco part of your SAP deployment that I might be able to help with (or engage the right technical resource)?

If so, please get in touch with me anytime at dosilver@cisco.com or +1 650-346-8945.

Cheers...Doug
