Tracking Number for delivery items

We have a request to add the tracking number for companies like FEDEX or UPS to our system.

With our business, the tracking number is at the item level of the delivery, so a delivery with 3 items could possibly have 3 different tracking numbers.

Our SAP system connects to an external shipping system which is connected to FEDEX and UPS so they would send the tracking numbers back to SAP which triggers SAP to do the goods issue.

I see a lot of posts about the shipment number using VT02N but this isn't what we want. I don't want SAP to generate a shipping number for this. We simply want the tracking number associated with the delivery.

Is there a simple way to store the tracking number from external shipping system at the item level of the delivery?

I can do this by screen exit and appending the LIPS structure but was curious if there's a standard solution.

I found this and this looks promising. I've done this in our Sandbox system and it works. I just have to integrate inbound delivery IDOCs with this.

Which document output, your client would hand over to FEDEX or UPS? If it is Delivery, according to your comments, will they hand over the same delivery document to different freight vendors? Ideally, one delivery document to be handed over to one vendor like FEDEX or UPS. Having said this, you can maintain the same in LIKP-BOLNR

I do not think we have a standard solution for the above requirement. We have a similar process and the Tracking Number is filled in via an Enhancement.
