deploy crystal reports on hosting server

Hello,

I have developed an ASP.NET web application in Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition. The target .NET framework is 4.0. The web technology used is ASP.NET 4.0 and the programming language used is C#. I also developed rpt files and integrated them in the web application. The application works fine on the development machine. It also works fine on the server machine placed in the organization. However, now the organization wants to deploy the application on the hosting server. The organization has purchased a hosting plan from a company to host its domain. I need to know what is required to deploy this application on the hosting server. Specifically, what needs to be done in the scenario 3 mentioned below:

Scenario 1:

I need to integrate crystal reports with Visual Studio.

Solution:

Install SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Visual Studio (Service Pack 18) on the development machine.

Scenario 2:

I need to deploy the web application on the server machine of the organization.

Solution:

Install SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (Service Pack 18) on the server machine.

Scenario 3:

I need to deploy the web application on my hosting plan so that the reports are available for viewing over the internet.

Solution:

???

You should also look at the licensing info that is available here: http://sapassets.edgesuite.net/sapcom/docs/2015/07/368edae4-597c-0010-82c7-eda71af511fa.pdf. Specifically read the section on OEM Products, which will explain the difference in licensing requirements between in-house use and making your application available to people outside your organization. However, it looks like if you're deploying to a commercial hosting service, you'll need to get an OEM license.

You're correct about what the hosting service provider will have to install.

Thank you so much Don and Dell. Your replies are very helpful to me.

From the replies, what I understand is there is no additional license cost involved if we move the application from the server machine of the organization to the host server on the web. The requirement is that the hosting service provider should install SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework with the same/latest version that was used to develop the web application. Also, .NET framework 2.0 and the latest .NET framework should be installed on the host server. Am I inferring correctly?

Also, you will need to have .NET 2.0 installed on the host server in addition to the newer version of the .NET framework. The Crystal for VS SDK still uses some of the earlier version. I believe SAP development is working on a new version that will not require the .NET 2.0.

First only issue is asking the Hosting Service if they can keep your CR runtime up to date and be the same version you are developing with.

Some of these Hosting sites will not allow updates and only support specific versions of CR runtime.

The runtime package installs are on the download page, you don't need VS on the Host Server.
