SAP Agent for Solution Manager server

Former Member

Hi

Our Solution Manager version is 7.01 and SP level is 26. I have installed Solution Manager Diagnostic Agent 7.20 in the managed server. As per sap documents, sap host agent is the part of Solution Manager Diagnostic Agent version 7.20, so i did not installed SAP Host Agent.

Question: Do we need SAPCCM4X agent? In one of the SDN message, i have read that SAPCCM4X is not required now as it is part of  SAP Host Agent. If this is the case then how satellite system will reports to CEN at Solution manager server via CMSREG user?

Thanks

Amar

Hi Amar,

The SAPHOSTAGENT package contains all of the required elements for centrally monitoring any host. It is automatically installed during the installation of any components of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP 2 and higher. So you need not install this explicitly. The SAPHOSTAGENT package contains the following elements, among others:

     saphostexec

     sapstartsrv

    sapacosprep

    saposcol

However you still need ccm4x agent to monitor/report your SAP system status to CEN (AS ABAP up to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP1), which basically reads from the oscoll shared memory segment and reports to solution manager. But there have been changes since SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP2 systems.

So depending on your managed system version you use different agents to monitor.

Please read below help.sap documentation.

Hi Vivek

Thanks for your response with details. Need some info:

What is the major difference between 'saphostagent' and 'sapccm4x'? As per my understanding, Both agents centrally monitor the managed host.

As you mentioned, SAPHOSTAGENT package contains all of the required elements for centrally monitoring any managed host, then what is the need for SAPCCM4X agent?

As ccm4x agent is used to monitor/report your SAP system status to CEN, does it mean that SAPHOSTAGENT is not doing this task and this is the main reason to install sapccm4x?

Thanks again, Vivek.

HI

saphostagent :

The SAPHOSTAGENT package contains all of the required elements for centrally monitoring any host. It is automatically installed during the installation of any components of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP 2 and higher. However, on each host with an SAP component managed by the Adaptive Computing Controller (ACC), check whether the host agent is installed and running.

The SAPHOSTAGENT package contains the following elements, among others:

  •   saphostexec
  •   sapstartsrv
  •   sapacosprep
  •   saposcol

ccms agent:

The CCMS agents extend the monitoring architecture by providing an alternative connection route from the central monitoring system to any other servers. In doing so, they enable you to:

  • Include SAP components without ABAP interfaces
  • Include non-SAP components
  • Optimize performance when reading and writing monitoring data
  • Establish a connection route irrespective of the possible error status of the monitored SAP instance
