Does an Upgrade to Netweaver EP 7.3 Require an Upgrade of BW ?

Hello Experts,

I am a BW Consultant looking into the impact of an upgrade of Enterprise Portal to the new version of 7.3 where we have BI-Java Installed.

My main question is ... Does the Upgrade to NetWeaver EP require an Upgrade of BW ?

If it is not the required ... Is the old BI-Java Component upgraded to 7.3 or is the old BI-Java Component used ?

The SAP Documentation does not expicitly state that this is possible but OSS Note 1388258 and master guide infers this, I am however cautious since these are often vauge and do not state all assumptions.

What version of EP are you currently running? Also is your EP running on a BW dual-stack system or is is standalone?

I would hope that a 7.3 EP (standalone) would be able to work with a < 7.3 BW system. Looking at my own 7.3 system I can see that the BI Java components are all version 7.30.5.0 - so I would say that it upgrades the BI Java components - the real question then is whether the 7.3 BI Java components can be used with an older version of BW system.

I'm sorry I don't have a full answer for you, but I look forward to hearing the final answer. Hopefully someone else can help more.

I am looking at going from Netweaver EP 7.0 EHP2 to Netweaver EP 7.3.

These are probably the real questions ...

1. Does Netweaver EP 7.3 (BI-Java 7.3) work with BW 7.0 or

2. Can Netweaver EP 7.3 (BI-Java 7.0) be configured and does it work with BW 7.0.
