Creation of notification for pipe leak

Former Member

Hi,

I have pump feeding a liquid to a distillation column. I have defined a functional location and the pump defined as an equipment is placed on it. Also I have defined a fucntional location for the distillation column. There is piping connecting the pump and the distillation column. A leak is found on the pipe midway between pump and distillation column. It is not correct to create a notification for the pump or the distillation column to check the leak. On what object should I create the notification and also how should I define piping as an object.

Regards,

Brad

Hi,

Best practice is to create the Pipe a Functional Location, you can us network as well to connect the different Functional locations; maybe you need to create different functional locations using geographical or accounting logic (different cost centers or WBS elements as settlement receiver

Create Pipe as equipment & create notification for that. If you want to shut down Distillation column & pump which are connected by pipe, using object link & enhancement, you can create notification for those as well as dependent on other equipment breakdown. So that, MTTR / MTBR will not have any effect for those equipments.

Dear Maheswaran,

Can you please brief me on what you mean by enhancement? Do you mean to say that currently a malfunction report captures breakdown or not but does not capture whether it is breakdown because of self or external source.

Hi Brad,

As stated by Jim, You can link two technical objects belonging to similar category like eqpt to eqpt or f.loc to f.loc and each link is mentioned in a network ID for identification purpose and u can even mention medium between the links.

In your case, you can create an object link between the two functional locations with TCode IN04.

Give the two functional locations and define the path (One way/two way). Once you create object link, go to IN05/IN06 and after putting link number click on object network.

Now select the reference object and go to menu -> Goto ->create notification

You will be able to create notification now for the link.

Dear Deepak,

I tried to create notification as instructed by you. But I faced warning message as attached. And on going past the warning message the notification has no reference to object link or the functional locations. Most likely this would not serve the prupose I think. Can you please check and let know if I am doing anything wrong.

Hello Brad,

Regarding the warning message,You need to click on any of the reference functional location(either "to" or "from") before going to menu -> Goto ->create notification. In this case you will not get any warning message.

After this once you create the notification this will have a reference of the functional location which you clicked before creating the notification.

I have used this functionality in the past and this is the best way to record the failures on object links.

The pipe should be defined as an object link this allows you to identify the pipe linking the 2 objects.

I do not have access to a sandbox system at the moment so can not be sure if this helps you with the creation of the notification but will check it out first thing tomorrow for you.
