Microsoft Sharepoint

Does anyone know what the are plans if any for converging the SAP portal and Microsoft portal (sharepoint)?

We are looking at using the Microsoft sharepoint portal for the My Information gateway. From within that portal we want to link to the SAP portal and use the SAP standard functionality to deliver employee self service and manager self service functionality (and functionality based on other non-HR systems), keeping the look and feel the same across portals. Is this recommended, possible, proven?

We would like to define roles and permissions on SAP Portal, but then would like the Sharepoint portal to access and use the same data for permissioning/user group definition on sharepoint. Can we read the database tables holding the SAP roles and permission.
