Does anyone know what the are plans if any for converging the SAP portal and Microsoft portal (sharepoint)?

We are looking at using the Microsoft sharepoint portal for the My Information gateway. From within that portal we want to link to the SAP portal and use the SAP standard functionality to deliver employee self service and manager self service functionality (and functionality based on other non-HR systems), keeping the look and feel the same across portals. Is this recommended, possible, proven?

We would like to define roles and permissions on SAP Portal, but then would like the Sharepoint portal to access and use the same data for permissioning/user group definition on sharepoint. Can we read the database tables holding the SAP roles and permission.

Hi Louisa,

There are plans for converging Sharepoint (SPS) and EP6.0. Microsoft has committed to delivering reposistory managers for both SPS and Exchange. These are due for release any time and may already be available. These will allow information stored in SPS to be leverage by EP6.0's KM functionality.

SPS and EP6.0 look quite different and so getting a consistent look and feel would be difficult. There is quite a lot that you can do, the SDN site here is an example - compare it to the out of the box ep6.0!

The UME on the SAP Portal, which runs on WAS 6.40, can store sap portal roles, and usually authentication can be done via an compliant ldap (novell, AD, iDirectory, and even R/3).

Are you wanting to store permissions within UME, and use that repository for your sharepoint portal as well?
