Hi,

SAP uses a lot of different ports to make connections. It heavily relies on the services file to make the right decisions. Services file maintains these ports.

saplogon.ini file entries need not to be maintained if we are talking about EP.

points if your question is answered.

Thanks for your reply Amit..I just want to extend my question a bit more..

We actually got a 'load balancing error rc=9' when user logged into Portal and clicked on a report (not sure if it is a transactional report or query report). Now when we logged a ticket with SAP BASIS team, they said that they have added port (not sure if they have added or deleted or modified, but they did some port configuration) and it solved the issue. Now I think that they would have done something with this 'services' file. so my question is...

1) What would they have done to this file which solved the 'load balancing rc=9,,..' error

2) And also tell me if this file (services) looses some entries all of a sudden due to installation of any software in the system ? Because everything was working fine last Friday and this monday morning we got this error and this happened only for few users. So do you suspect that the file being overridden due to installation of any software ?

Hi Venkata,

I am happy to answer this question, as few weeks back I have resolved a similar issue.

This error came in your system because port which message server was using was not present in the services file. Your team has added this port number in the file and issue was fixed.

Services file is common for the landscape it doesn't change automatically unless someone change/modify it manually.

In your case there might be some port change in the system and which was not maintained in the services file, once you informed your team they have added the port and it fixed the issue.

Hope | am able to answer your queries. Points please .

This becomes relevant from SAP Portal - If you intend to use the SAP GUI for Windows Transactional iViews to access SAP GUI directly from SAP Portal.
