How can I change my username?

Former Member

My username is kevin.grove2, how can I change this? I do not care to have a version number after my name -- that is SO AOL!! I scoured my profile but was unable to find any place where this can be reset.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi Kevin,

I have just been informed that you can request to change your username.  Simply send an email to SAPnetwork@sap.com and let them know what you want to change it to.

Thank you for following up. I did see the link for sapnetwork and sent them an email as well. I apologize is my response seemed harsh. It was not intended that way. I appreciate getting feedback from the #SCN team on what must be a very "challenging" day, to say the least.

Best regards,

Wow, thanks for this great answer that solves all the problems everyone on this thread has...

Please, try to actually read the entire thread before posting random, spurious answers.

Cheers,

Hi oliver ,
I have a similar kind of request. My username is mocharla_karthikeya, but i wanted it to be as MksKarthikeya19_1.

Enclosed my profile link below

mocharla_karthikeya.

As this is the very first time for me to create an account in SAP, requesting you to make it as Mkskarthikeya19_1 so that my profile will be like Mkskarthikeya19_1.

Please let me know for further inputs.

Hi Pavan,

please check the pavan.praveen account. If that is also yours, please request the SCN username to get changed by the support team. They know by now about this issue.

Thought I would add the response from sapnetwork:

Subject: Re: SCN Support Request  (KMM6616552I5883L0KM)

Hello Kevin,

the new technology implies that your display name is a combination of your last and first name. To change your display name, please adjust this combination.

The log-on issue is known and is currently being worked on. We appreciate your patience.

REALLY? The question then is, do I have to LEGALLY change my name or can I create any alias I would like? Since I am a little "surprised" at the suggestion that I change my name, I sent a follow-up email asking for clarification. At this point, deleting this account and starting over might have been faster. On the other hand, I wonder if Hasso Plattner has created an account yet?

Thank you for following up. I was just documenting the issue/response while I wait on sapnetwork to respond to my last email.

Hi,

I've had exactly the same response as Kevin when I requested to change my username from "gareth.ryan2" to "gareth.ryan".  The really annoying thing is that "gareth.ryan" is me too but its an old (long forgotten!) S-Number.  I really would like the two accounts merged and replaced with one, called "gareth.ryan" but not having much luck with support on this so far.

I imagine stuff like this probably isn't top of the list of priorities after the recent cutover to the new SCN but it would be good to get it resolved as soon as possible - I don't want to create a personal blog space against the wrong ID and then potentially have problems further down the road.

Thanks in advance,

Gareth.

You can send an email to sapnetwork@sap.com to ask for assistance. They have been responding - though slowly. My main complaint was I could not try to change it to ANYTHING. I actually logged into my "personal S-account" and changed that username to kevin_grove. That was "supposed" to let me fix my current active S-account -- so far no luck!

Good luck!

Hi Kevin,

I've already tried emailing but just got the same vague (and useless) reply that you have posted above!  I've mailed them again but got no response at all.  Pretty disappointing and annoying that such a simple thing is obviously causing so much hassle.

I'm pretty busy at the moment so not in a massive rush to sort this but would like to be able to control my userID soon.

I had the same issue with respect to my user name. I wrote to them after seeing this thread - Several emails to sapnetwork later, the final response from them to me is (I parpahrase) - "Nothing can be done. Wait for a fix - no promises that this will be fixed though". So I go through life as harish.krishnan3 for no particular reason.

Harish,

I got exactly the same statement....having to live with a number as well currently.

Same happened to me...

I "own" both gareth.ryan and gareth.ryan2 ID's however don't use gareth.ryan any more as it is from an old, old S-number.  I asked SCN support to merge the two, delete gareth.ryan2 and I'd start to just use gareth.ryan.  I went though a few steps of the process that they had explained to me but when I then came to log into SCN with gareth.ryan again, it actually wanted me to create a new id as (wait for it) gareth.ryan3

Really cannot believe something so fundamental doesn't work in a way that makes logical sense or helps users.

I'd like to start blogging on SCN now it is easier to do so, however I really don't want to do that with gareth.ryan2 as the landing address!

I must say, SCN Email Support is horrible...

for the last few weeks, I have trying to get my email ID corrected but looks like the guys at SCN Support just does not understand what is the problem. My email ID has an extra "x" at the begining, and I want to get it removed., thats all..Is it that hard??

I had around 10-12 email communications with them, but no results..They even have stopped replying to my email..

They say my correct email ID is associated with another SCN ID..I told them to delete the this inactive ID, so that the email address is corrected for the Active User ID thru which I am logged in right now.

They just dnt get it, even after explaining them in details in many follow up mails.

It is possible to change the email address yourself under "Edit Profile & Privacy", did you try that?

Yes I did try from my side  by editing the profile. However it does not allow me to change, says "email id is reserved"..I want the SCN team to delete my old inactive user id, so that I can use the right email id for this active account.

I see...in the meantime I read somewhere that the x in front is assigned automatically in exactly these cases, duplicate email addresses.

Sorry for your bad experience, I hope they get it done eventually.

Hi Sandip,

you have two accounts on SCN. The other one is http://scn.sap.com/people/sandip.agarwalla2

I'll DM you your SCN user ID for this one. Please login there and change you mail address. Then you would be able to change it in you current account, once it isn't occupied by this dormant anymore.

Best,

  Oliver

Hi Sandip,

interesting, I also don't find that s-user account in central user management anymore. Anyway, I changed the mail address of that account here, so you should be able to change yours now. I would suggest you request to either disable or delete that old account by the support team. There are only two messages posted by it.

Best,

Hi Oliver

is there anything you would be able to do about the username issue? i.e I would like a simple username without any number tacked on to it.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Harish,

please request the username change at the official support team, which can be reached at sapnetwork@sap.com.

Thanks Oliver, I have already gone down that route, to no avail ( pl see updates above in this thread).

So basically that means there is no solution. without my consent my user name has been changed, and nothing can be done about it.

Also SCN support has to get accommodated to the new platform, so give it another try.

Hi Oliver,

Do you know if SCN Support are able to resolve this issue yet?  The last time I spoke to them they were both unable to delete an account and change the username of another but did mention it may be fixed in future.

Before lots of people start emailing further requests in, I think it would be useful for the users to understand where this issue is in terms of resolution, as I'm sure there is a much wider audience affected than just on this thread.

Thanks in advance,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

let me jump in and try to assist.

First of all, as this is a relatively long thread, let me summarize: you own two accounts - gareth.ryan2 and gareth.ryan. You would like to keep gareth.ryan2 . And you would like to change your user name to gareth.ryan.

Please confirm and I will be able to assist you.

Kind regards,

Luisa

Hello Harish,

I will try to jump in and assist.

One of the SCN requirements is that username should be a unique field. I can see on the system that there are two more users named harish.krishnan. This is why your username also got "3" number at the end. So, as you can imagine, we are not able to change your user name to "harish.krishnan", as the value is already taken (unless that account also belongs to you, but I am not able to find that out).

Would you consider going for something like "harish.k" or "harish_krishnan"?

Just let me know, I will make sure, the value is not taken yet and try to assist.

Kind regards,

Luisa

Hi Martin,

does the martin.hinderer account also belong to you?

If no, would you consider something like martin_hinderer?

Please let me know and I will try to assist.

Luisa

Hi Luisa

Thank you very much for assisting with this

I am pretty sure all harish krishnans are myself, as I have had three different S IDs since 2004 when I first joined SCN.

However, if you cannot verify that, I would be willing to consider harish.tk or harish_krishnan,

Thanks and Regards

Both accounts belong to me and can be merged, please make sure that the active one will be the one where the data is taken from (should be the one with the number).

Hi Harish,

I would ask you to contact sapnetwork@sap.com once again explicitly asking to forward your request straight to 2nd level support to avoid any further misunderstanding or confusion. Please identify the email address you currently login to SCN with. Include a note that you would like to have your username be changed to harish.tk or harish_krishnan .

Kind regards,

Luisa

Hi Luisa,

Thanks a lot for jumping in and assisting in.

This problem had festered for a fairly long time, Emails to sapnetwork@scn.com, wasn't generating any satisfactory responses. However, your suggestions have resulted in a desired outcome within 2 days. I now have a username which resembles my actual name closely without any appended numbers.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Luisa,

thank you, this worked out mostly fine for me. I have everything under the user name without number, but a full "merge" seems to be still not possible (the ...2 account is still existing, though empty). I would see this as a future possibility for SAP to consolidate the existing accounts in the system.

For the future I would not expect such problems, if it is possible to keep the account and just assign it to a new S-User ID (or to just remove a connected S-User ID). Reading through the other posts here I think this is what caused most of the issues.

Regards

Martin
