With dual stack of SAP PI 7.11 or Solman 7.01, the Java UME points to 001 of ABAP Client. I've never ever worked on client 001 before and believed it should be untouched.
Technically, we can keep the Java UME on 001 and continue user creation etc... however, I wonder if it is a better practice to create one more client for managing the UME or mapping it to existing productive client ?
Please suggest..
1. If it should be kept as 001 or should it change to productive client / new client for Solman / PI / EP.
2. In case we should create a new client (say 900), I'll need to copy the profile SAP_USER from client 001 (where all existing users are available).
2a: Here should I prefer to do a SAP_ALL from 000 to 900 before copying UME or is it not required.
2b: Also, how do we / do we need to cleanup 001 ?
Thanks
Hi,
PI is specific among abap stack SAP software products : It is mandatory to use client 001 for everything including UME.
Check the documentation...

Hi Jay ,
I cannot put it as mandotary , as we have a running PI and Solman system using Custom Clients.
BUT IDEALLY IT IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED in case for SOLUTION MANAGER and PI to use 001 Client.
If your organisation has the Skills sets you can divert from the standard recommendations , although we had to go through a lot of mess in configuring it with Custom Clients.
My suggestion would be to use CLIENT 001.

Hi,
Below are the responses to your queries :
1. If it should be kept as 001 or should it change to productive client / new client for Solman / PI / EP?
-
UME must be pointed to your production client.
2. In case we should create a new client (say 900), I'll need to copy the profile SAP_USER from client 001 (where all existing users are available).

This is not required
2a: Here should I prefer to do a SAP_ALL from 000 to 900 before copying UME or is it not required.

This is not required. At the time of installation 01 must be the UME for your java stack and after the installation you must have created the production client from 001. Right??? If ity is so then you need not worry and if its not so then you can copy the UME of 001 to your productive client.
2b: Also, how do we / do we need to cleanup 001 ?

Why do you want to cleanup 001???

Why do you want to cleanup 001???
This is because I presumed some default users / roles might have been created during the installation of java. Please let me know if this is not the case. Therefore, the copying and cleanup.
