Hi Folks
Please some one explain how can i use MDG, does MDG act on top of MDM
How does the data flow when taget system is SAP ( usually like Legacy systems_XI_ MDM_XI_SAP)
Regards
shifali
Hello,
as rightly said in the above post,
MDG is more of a ERP based product, for finance Material and Vendor.
What MDG does is provides a staging area, before the record is available in the master tables.
I'm not sure if consolidation is a part of MDG or not.
But other scenarios like distribution and cmdm are part if MDG.
MDG is more of a process oriented solution for embedded solution where as MDM is more of a Enterprise wide solution.
with MDM we can integrate specialist software's to have a robust solution, in MDG the functionality of ERP system will only be used

Abhishek

Hello Shifali,
Both MDM and MDG are two different tools, which one to use will depend on your system landscape.
As said earlier MDG is more SAP ERP centric
1. Change requests are created each time a new record has to be created or an existing record has to be modified.
2. MDG also allows designing of workflow for the central master data creation or maintenance process. These workflows will typically involve multiple people adding their expertise to complex master data
Eg: one person editing a editing the Company code data and other Purchase organization data. The workflows also include workflow steps for approval of the changed data in which purchase organization or company code data can be Approved by appropriate persons.
3. Until the Approval process is complete, the data is kept in the staging area, and once the data is Approved the new values are updated in the SAP tables like MARA, LFA1 etc.
4. MDG supports complete audit trial because it Tracks all the changes and the approvals the record has undergone.
5. MDG offers end to end data governance process, data can be distributed among various SAP systems.
6. One feature of MDG is when the master data that is under process is sent for Approval, the Approver can see both the Old and New value of the field whose value has been changed at the time of approving. which i think(this feature) is not available in MDM.
MDM on the other hand is robust because it maintains its own database

Hi Prasad,
In response to 6th point, Please correct me if I am wrong but I think, we have ''Compare records'' function in MDM which displays old & new value of a checked-out record. If you use WDC UI & BPM for approval process flow, approver can view old & new value of a checekd-out record by ''Compare with Original'' button. It's very common requirement in any MDM implemenation.
Thanks & Regards,
Vineet
Hello Vineet,
Yes we do have the Compare Records option in MDM which displays all the fields (Including the fields whose value has not been changed) old and new values which different color coding. where as in MDG we have the option to see only the changed fields of a record with their old and new values.
Let me know if we have an option in MDM where an approver can see the old and new values Only of a changed field, this would be a learning for me.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Ganapathi
Thanks for your reply..
I believe after 3 months from the post you might have had new Learnings in MDM VsMDG. We would really appreciate if you canshare us your new learnings.
I have following queriers:
1. When MDM is in Scope, How feasible is to opt MDG also.I mean what points we can raise so as to convience the client that we wud also need MDG.
2.How is MDG different in Standalone or with ECC Suite.
3. If both are in scope How is the integration between MDM and MDG happens.
Regards
Lakshmi
Hello,
MDG stores data directly into SAP data base tables like MARA, LFA1 etc where as MDM stores data in seperate data base
MDG is based on SAP ERP server where as MDM is based on NW MDM server.
MDG is more of SAP ERP centric(Data is consolidated from SAP systems and distributed back to the same using PI).
