EP 6.0 on WebAS 6.40 connected with R/3 on 6.20?

Hi everyone,

We are currently set up with EP 6.0 SP2 running on WebAS 6.20. This is connected to an R/3 Enterprise 470x200 running on 6.20. It has become apparent that we need to quickly get our Enterprise Portal upgraded so it runs on WebAS 6.40. But we do not want to upgrade the R/3 WebAS servers. First of all, can you even do this? Have EP 6.0 on WebAS 6.40 connected to R/3 on WebAs 6.20? If you can, has anyone done it? If so, have there been any major issues? In theory this should work just fine, but I am concerned that BAPI calls from Portal apps to the R/3 back end may run into some issues.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

If I understood you right you want to upgrade WAS 6.20 to WAS 6.40 and not to touch R/3. In this case you shouldn't run to any problem with BAPIs. It will work fine after upgrade.

Hope it helps,

Thank you Victor.

Judging from some of the documentation it will be hard enough to migrate the J2EE engine from 6.20 to 6.40. Thankfully, we only have a handful of PCD objects to migrate.

If anyone has any additional comments, insights they would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Yes, it will, but connection to the backend would not be the issue in this migration and that was the question as far as I can inderstand.

Regarding the migration process itself it is better to refere to documentation becase it is not the issue that can be explained in a one post.

Best Regard

Victor.
