SAP INSTGUI closes itself during installation of IDES ECC 6.0 EhP5

Hello experts,

i tried to install an IDES ECC 6.0 Ehp5 virtual, but during the installation (step: apab import) the installation GUI closes itself. ??? When i start the sapinst.exe a console window and the gui pops up, and the gui closes itself during apab import. The console window still remains till the installation is finished (i think that the installation is finished, but im not sure^^).

The VM works on and after some time (a couple of hours) the console window closes itself too. I now can start my SAP system and logon with SAPLogon. I entered SICK and the check is successful.

Is the sap system realy successful installed? How can i test and proof it?

Steps i did:

installed Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VM

-> done prerequisites like: pagefile, sap account, uac, firewall, hostname.....

installed MSSQL Server 2008 via vbs file

unziped jvm 4.1 from sap

started the installation and defined all parameters such as: jre, java_policy, crypto, kernel, inst. export...

entered hw key and started the installation

System:

Intel i5 2500k @ 4GHz

5GBRAM

350GB Disk

Hi Christian,

From my point of view, that is not a good symptom. I don't think it's a good idea to use system if you don't have the certainty that all the installation was successful.

I had sometimes a similar problem and it turned out to be a problem with the installation software, combined with the kernel. I suggest you open an OSS message. In case you want to try possible solutions by yourself, please download the latest installation package CD from SAP Support, as well as the latest kernel CD and try to reinstall all from scratch (I don't think it's a big deal, given that the installation process is now running abap import).

For the installation i used the following kernel:

	51039352_8 	BS7i2010 UC-Kernel 7.20 Windows Server on x64 64bit 

Do i have to patch the kernel before the installation? Because i have tried several time to install the ERP in my VM with the same symptoms.

Hi,

The SAPInst installation logs are written in the directory:

..\program files\sapinst_instdir\..\..\..\

Here you would find sapinst.log and sapinst_dev.log. Check in these if the installation completed fine. There are quite some steps after the Import ABAP step too in SAPInst. So even though the system is up, lot of post import reports execution must be pending.

I assume that the installation is finished successful?! But i dont know why the GUI closes? I tried to search the logfiles for errors or something like that, but i'm not able to find.
