Hello Team,

Method 1: In CL30N tcode, i want to restrict the users ability to view the characteristics of a class based of the organisational area they were assigned to. for example when i goto extras->user settings->general settings, under parameters when i give an organisational area and save then the user will be able to only view the characteristics of the class with which the organisational area was assigned.

Method 2:But the same functionality can be performed using the Tcode SU3, by restricting the parameters in User profile.

I wanted to know the difference between both of them so i tried to test it but i am able to do only the method 1, when i try to do the same using Tcode SU3 using the parameter ID VIEW (18) and KAR(3) it is not working at all.

Would request you to kindly advise me weather it is possible to do with the Tcode SU3, if so how to do it and what would be the difference between the method 1 and 2.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Sanjay D

Please find below my updated question, as there was some internal error the system is not allowing me to edit my question above.

Method 2:But the same functionality can be performed using the Tcode SU3, where we can provide the default value for class type and organisational area, so when we go to CL30N tcode and execute the displayed characteristics should be be filtered according to the organisational level, but this is not happening when in tested it. 1. in the initial screen of CL30N we dont have the text box to enter the organisational area 2. The text box in parameters under general settings doesnt have the default value of class type and organisational area as well.

So, i would like to know is there any possibility of filtering the characteristics as per organisational area through Tcode SU3 or it is not possible because we dont the field organisational area mentioned in the initial screen.

(Note:i believe the parameters in general settings are background filter and SU3 doesn't provide default values for them, please correct me if i am wrong)

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Sanjay D

SU3 Parameters are in general used to default values to selection screens

Alternative they can point a user to a certain customizing variant, like it is done with variable messages, where one message version is a warning and the other an error, so you can user wise define if if an error message or just a warning is shown.

In purchasing you have a parameter which also defaults values for purchasing management, a certain customizing which allows/restricts certain purchasing activities.

Where did you read that you can use SU3 parameters for restricting users from classification? Can it eventually be that SAP stores the values from your first method just as those parameters? If this is the case then you can of course use method 2 and manually maintain parameters to get to the same result.

Hello Jürgen L,

No, i just assumed that this can be done through SU3, Method 2 is just my assumption, since we can get default values through SU3, i just assume that this is possible but i couldn't do it when i tested in my SAP system. so that was my question whether is it possible to do it or is there any other way.

Thanks & Regards,

And this just leads me back to my previous answer where I explained for what the parameters in SU3 are used.

And where I asked the question "Can it eventually be that SAP stores the values from your first method just as those parameters?"

if your answer is "yes" then you can of course use method 2 and manually maintain parameters to get to the same result. if your answer is "no" then method 2 will not work as you assumed.

Would it make sense if the user could grand himself authorization by changing the parameters in SU3? Only if you don't give him access to SU3.
