Datacenter Migration

Hi All,

We are planning for a Datacenter Migration and i had few questions regarding it.

Source is on HP-UNIX 11.23, Oracle 10.2, SAP -ECC6 EHP4

Our target version would be 11.31, Oracle 11g, SAP-ECC6 EHP4

im thinking of installing oracle 11g and shell of ECC6 EHP4 on target system and then perform export from source system

and use the export dump to import in the target system.

I would like to know if the above strategy is ok as the difference between source and target would be OS release and Oracle version.

Any inputs would be of great help.

Regards,

Ershad Ahmed.

Hi,

The procedure is correct.

If you are comfortable with Migration Monitor. Additional to your steps you can do the below things too.

Source:

1) Start your export from sapinst after R3ldctl finishes, it will exist for migration monitor.

Target:

1) Install the Oracle Software

2) Databse creation

3) Tablespace Creation

and then it will exit. and wait till you configure migration monitor and start the import. Once all data is imported and you continue with your sapinst screen.

(Benefits : Tablespace creation for large database take much time and you are saving this time)

If you are comfortable iwth migration monitor then only proceed with the above steps.

Hi Ershad,

Your approach is very correct. You may use System copy procedure using SAPinst to export your source database and then import the same into target database.

Refer Homogenous system copy guide to perform required post migration activities viz.

TRansport management re-configuraton

Adjustment of RFC destinations

etc etc.
