Hi all,
I need to know if repairable parts are listed differently than the non repairable ones.
Are there usually seperate material codes for items that can be repaired versus unrepairable ones?
We are trying to identify items that are noted to be repaired instead of being replaced.
How can we do that?
Cheers~
Based on material type, parts can be differentiated between repairable & non repairable.

You can use refurbishment process for this and split valuation for material in mm.

I agree that the same material type should be used with serial number profile
If your finance department will not allow you to use split valuation you can use Batches as an alternative:
Batch - New
Batch - Refurbished
Batch - faulty
In practice an equipment is the best practice as you can have the intallation history, you can also manage them as materials without an equipment.
I would suggest that you take care in the material master with the Max Min and Reorder quantities if this is managed well then only when items are scraped will the system try to reorder a new item.

I think you should keep same code for a particular material ireespective of repirability as you may sometime decide to buy it instead of repairing. To identify repairable material you need to serialise & assign equipment no to it so that you identify them. Further you will have to use split valuation for repairable items(price for new item, repaired item & damaged item). For repairing you may use refurbishment process. So identification is not a problem
