Hi Folks,
Just wondering from a planning/performance perspective, is there any standard or a better way to implement master data & trans data loads in sync? Are there any benchmarks as to if there are certain # of records, then schedule it at a later time or something ? Eg: Scheduling extraction of Master Data First and then Loading in data targets at around 7 p.m. and then scheduling the load of TransData at maybe 9 p.m. in the same data target ? Obviously would automate this via Proc chains but does this process make sense or are there any better approaches. Would appreciate all the feedback.
Thanks.
Hi BBM,
In my opinion, you dont need to focus greatly on the performance just as what you want here to happen. (<i>Scheduling different loading to run on selected hours</i>) What is important is that BW should be able to report the next day all transactions made the other day. If you schedule the loading to run of different hours just to improve performance might result to information not able to be reported on BW the next day, instead on the next next day.
Anyway, its a good practice to complete masterdata loading first prior transaction data.

JKyle,
Thanks for your input. Do you happen to know what are typical schedules for data loads used or maybe could give some example from your environment ? Are there certain "NO NOs" which you can't implement during certain hours. Ex: In FI, if I have the deltas for AR, AP, is there a certain time I should initiate my delta extraction from R/3 and load on BW side? What should I consider before I plan for my extraction and loading onto BW side.
Thanks
Hi BBM,
Base on my experience, I found out the following factors effective in determining the proper loading time.
1.) The best time to do data loading to BW is when there are the least users using the the system.
2.) Ensure the all end of day postings are finished before loading to BW. (This is if the company requires BW to be able to report figures based on that day.)
3.) Check the time that there the least background jobs running in the system.
