Crystal reports 2008 & 2011 - Exporting a memo field to Excel

Former Member

I'm reviewing 2011 for a client who likes to export most reports to Excel. This works very well except when we have a memo field that is wrapped in the report. This condition always creates multiple rows in Excel which makes Excel rather useless as you can't sort the spreadsheet. We've even tried placing the memo field inside of a text field but still have the same issue. Does anyone know of a solution or are we looking at the wrong reporting tool for this client?

Thanks!

Hi Jamie,

I appreciate your response concerning exporting the memo field to Excel. I hate to say it still doesn't work. I placed it in a formula field in both 2008 & 2011. Still creates multiple rows in Excel. I also tried to format it with ProperCase just as a test. Still doesn't work. I'm thinking it maybe a short coming of Crystal but I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks!

hey Robert,

it works aok for me when i export to excel format (97 - 2003) with the default options.

using cr 2008 with versions 12.1.0.882 of the export dll's.

i'm using the product description field in the xtreme database which is by no means a huge memo field but a memo field nonetheless. i know that if i don't put the field in a formula, it will export to multiple lines in excel.
