Hello SEM Experts,
Am I right to say that to become an SEM consultant, one need not have accounting background to begin with and that one need not really understand the whole spectrum of accounting to customise the product.

you are absolutely correct. There are many BPS and CPM projects that have nothing to do with accounting for example implementing sales planning or a management cockpit for HR.
Dealing with BCS is of course a different story. You definitely need accounting skills if you want to configure the solution (otherwise you won't understand the business requirements).
