Serial number and Equipment

Dear All,

We are maintaining material with serial number. So we have maintianed a serial number profile in material master which is 0003.

1. now when we do the GR system propose the serial number automatically as we have marked the check box automatically.

2. On checking the serial number data in tcode IQ03 the status is coming as ESTO and a equipment category is coming there

Requirment: I do not want a eqipment category to be assigned to the serail number as its not a equipment.

Analysis: I have done bit ot R&D on this issue .... if I do not assign a quipement category in the serial number profile then system is taking M as default value for the equipment category from configuration.

So even if i create a profile w/o the equipment category system still fetches the value.......so question is how to get rid of equipment catgeory and at the same time i do want to use the serial number for the material master.
