Hi All,
Can any one let me know how to extract data from teradata source, is it done using dbconnect? please let me know the steps necessary to extract the data and do i need to transfer the data to r/3 before transferring into bw?
thanks in advance.
Teradata is SAP certified for UDC and, along with SAP, Teradata promotes and recommends UDC for BW 3.5 and beyond.
Additionally, they do offer a solution called TVAS(Teradata Virtual Access for SAP) that can be utilized for versions prior to 3.5. You can read all about it at the Teradata website.

To answer the question above..."how does it work" would be a very long write up!
Short explanation of TVAS: Teradata uses SAP's virtual cube with services which, via function module, uses SAP Jco and a stored procedure to generate the SQL(based on the query definition and the user selection) to query against Teradata and display the result set to BEX--it is very fast!
Hope this helps

Although TVAS works just fine with 3.5, I would recommend UDC as this is standard functionality supported solely by SAP. I believe this is also the joint recommendation of SAP and Teradata for customers on BW 3.5. UDC is very new and I know Teradata was also recently UDC certified by SAPlabs. I cannot offer any information regarding the speed of UDC w/ 3.5.
Even I heard of this tie up between Teradata and BW only recently - must be for 3.5 I guess.

If DBConnect does not work, you can always use the low-tech route: create a flat file and ftp it to the BW application server. Teradata has a utility called "BTQMAIN" a/k/a batch BTEQ. BTEQ is a batch utility that allows you to run SQL against the database and create a flat file. The "wrapper syntax" varies depending on whether you're writing a UNIX shell script or MVS JCL.

I have experience in this area. Please let me know how I can help. In a global partnership with SAP, Teradata offers an outstanding connectivity tool/solution designed exactly for this purpose. Teradata's solution works seamlessly with 3.1 and 3.5. However, if you are using a BW 3.5 system, I agree with Oliver and recommend using UD Connect. You can contact Todd Hayes directly at Teradata for more information or reply and we can discuss via email or phone.
Hi Oliver,
What about 3.1c is there anything else than UD Connect that can be used.
Thanks for ur reply.

Hi Bharat,
If you are on thw SAP BW 3.5 release you can use Universal Data Connect to either (1) read data dynamically using a remote cube or (2) load the data into BW. More information is available here http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/78/ef1441a509064abee6ffd6f38278fd/content.htm
