Plant creation

Hi experts,

My client having 5 trading plants & we wish to create only 1 plant instead of 5 plant because used only for trading purpose , so my query is that it is possible to assign 5 storage location to 1 plant with differrent address for this trading ?& what will be the effect ?

Hi sangita,

Yes you can create 1 plant instead of creating 5 plants , The issues you may are 1) Delivery location while po creation ,

2) if your client has plants located at 5 different places then taxes may cause problem as taxes changes according to states.

I will create non valuated material & then put only 1 plant in all po, no problem of taxes , is it possible & what will be the effect?

YEs no problem

but before doing this explain difference between Plant and storage location to client,so he may change it or later insist we don't know it

Hi sangita,

While creating po the delivery address will be plant address ,instead of 5 plants you are going to create 5 storage locations then each time while creating po you have to keep your delivery address changed according to your requirement.Rest of that there will be no problem.

Hi Sangita,

When we talk about the storage locations, they are maintained under a plant.

and within a plant.

anything maintained outside a Plant should be termed as Depot.

because material Moving in and out of the External Storage Locations(As per you) can not be traced.

you can not have any security checks for the same.

If you want to keep the Security for the other Depot's(Your External Storage Location), then better to maintain it as a plant.

FIRST effect will regarding valuvation ,as you know valuvation of material take place at plant level and you are creating once plant

so all material will come in this plant only ,so you wont get valuvation effects at stoarage location level

morehover if you have 5 trading plant and if its legel entity measn has regsitration then it should be plant in SAP

you will have only one valuation area for all the storage locations.

you wlll have to consider local levis taxes etc if it is different for the geographic region of trading locatons
