Hello,

It´s possible to install in my personal computer (with Linux installed) a SAP system on Oracle DB 10.2g or 11.2g for I can training some things... I´m basis consultant and it will be very usefull to test some things, for instances, work with brtools (oracle) with data files actions... etc etc...

It have 6Gb of RAM.

Can I install it? Where I can find the DVD media, certainly in SAP Marketplace but what product I can install, and it must be an IDES release or not?

Thanks in advance,

samid

Hello samid,

Check the following sap notes:

799639 - IDES - General Information about the usage of IDES systems

1601314 - IDES ERP 6.0 incl. EHP5

The IDES systems can be ordered via the Software Catalog of the SAP Service Marketplace (http:service.sap.com/swcat -> SAP IDES)... check this too!

hi samid,

Yes, 6GB RAM is quite OK.

But What about the HDD space

I recommend to have at least 400GB space

(Coz just after installation of Netweaver 7.0 , Oracle 10g DB will be around 125GB)

You may try the very basic configurations

SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 or either SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NETWEAVER 7.0

With Oracle 10g

O/S - SuSE 10/11

brtools 7.0 or 7.2

You may find relavent components from Software Downloads -> Software Download Center -> Browse our Download Catalog -> SAP NetWeaver and complementary products -> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 OR SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NETWEAVER 7.0

Hello zerandib,

Thank you for your help... but I think you didn´t realized what is my main doubts, I refered to an IDES Softwares from SAP! Note 799639 and http:service.sap.com/swcat -> SAP IDES.

For instance, I want to perform an installation of IDES ERP 6.0 incl. EHP5 in my personal computer and therefore what I asked was if it would be possible to install it on Linux platforms, and YES it is possible, I already found it, so it is possible!... but the other doubt that I had, is regarding the RAM memory and what is the minimum RAM for an SAP IDES installation?!

What you mentioned has nothing related with IDES software, you mentioned a SAP normal product which is recommended by SAP to install on servers!

Hi,

For "training" yourself some basis stuff 6GB RAM is surely ok.

The installation note talks about DB sizes between 230 and 270 GB (used) and 470GB required to install IDES EHP 5

plus some stuff for the software.

Hi Volker Borowski,

Thank you...

Tell me another thing... I guess is not recommended by SAP in doing upgrades, SAP Upgrades (from 4.6C to 6.0) or Oracle Upgrades (for instances from 10.2g to 11.2g) but from the technical point of view it is possible?... can I take that risk!?

The same for support packages, can I do SP´s updates to an IDES system?

Best regards,

samid

IDES systems are not supposed to be upgraded. IDES has many modifications which would make this painful. If you want to practice upgrades try an empty system first, i.e. a standard installation.

Support packages might work but there might be conflicts with said modifications. So not for the faint of heart.

DB and kernel upgrades should be easy going on the other hand.

Hello Zoltan Sekeres,

Thank you for your answer...

You recommended to make a standard installation... but in my scenario, I think that is impossible, because I don´t have a server in my home lol 😛

I only have a personal computer with 6/8Gb RAM and 500Gb of disk space. I guess for a SAP IDES system is not a problem but to make a standard SAP installation with this kind of resources it will certainly painful.

Kind regards,

samid

Actually it is the other way round: The requirements for IDES are much higher than for an standard (empty) install. At least regarding storage.

- IDES includes a lot of demo data: hundreds of gigs

- an empty ERP system: tens of gigs.

So you should be fine there.

Cheers,

Zoltan
