HI All,

i have gone through the installation document of SAP NW and it was mentioned that MCOD is supported by all SAP NW products. HOwver, i have not come across with any such recommendation from sAP so as to you either MCOD or Sepratate Database instance .

Please help me identifying the recommendation from SAP.

Hi Faisal,

I'd not recommend to install several systems in MCOD unless you have a strong reason to do that.

In my case, I have installed combinations of R/3 with CRM, because they were linked in a very strong way, and it was critical to keep both systems up-to-date and assure that in case of a DB restore, both keep the correct data in both sides. I mean, you have to assure, for example, that a processed IDOC in R/3 it is actually processed in CRM and vice-versa.

But this is not necessary in most cases. The normal queue mechanism between system should be enough to assure the data consistency.

In any other case, I think installing several systems in MCOD is NOT a good idea.

Hope this helps

Best Regards

Francisco

We installed MCOD on our system consisted of ECC/SRM/PI/EP becasue they are tightly linked and client wanted to minimise administration tasks. Installation was much quicker. So far there has been no issues at all. MCOD speeds up system copy etc because it is in one DB. At the time I believed all comonenet are supported including solution manager. You also reduce DB space (20% reported) but who is concern about that these days.

I dont agree with the previous post, the earlywatch report reports individual componenets such as ECC/SRM/PI, you should know which componenet is installed with which schema.

Hi Faisal,

Refer SAP Note 388866 - Multiple Components on One Database - Installation

Especially section What has to be kept in mind

It should give you a better look out.

I am not aware of any official SAP recommendation either.

And I wouldn't install MCOD either.

Actually we had a few MCOD some years ago, but not any more now.

Main reason: SAP management tools don't fully support MCOD.

For example in an EarlyWatch report you may find expensive SQL statements on table XYZ12.

But if you have several tables XYZ12, let's say in database schema SAPABC and in SAPDEF, then EarlyWatch will not tell you which one.

You have to find out yourself.
