Using MDF for HR Objects

Former Member

We are undertaking a feasibility study to create new HR objects using the Master Data Framework. I have seen very few discussions pointing towards HR objects and just a bullet point on one of the eLearning sessions.

Is MDF a good idea for this kind of development ? Need just an assurance before we get too far in our efforts. Any pointers to related documents would also be helpful (other than help.sap.com and SDN eLearning Sessions).

Hi,

if you're thinking about additional object types in MDM, MDF is the only choice. I guess the MDF object model fits the HR object types although I don't know what object types you're dealing with in detail.

From our experience, HR object types tend to contain validity information. You should have a very thorough look at this topic, especially how validities are handled by the distribution interface on the client system side.

With support package 4, we have delivered some quite elaborate MDF object types for classification purposes (CHARACTER, DTYPE, DEFSCOPE, MDMCLASS). These object types make use of more or lesse everything MDF has to offer (object model, validiations, UI with enhancments, distribution logic). They are an excellent instance as template for your own MDF object types.

Best regards,
