Hi
I have installed WAS 6.40 SP6 and EP 6 SP4. While attempting to start the Server instance the SDM server is not coming up. What could possibly be wrong? Also at times the server instance is not shown in the MMC, the temperory solution to this being the restart of the Machine. Please advise.
Regards
Priya
Hi Priya,
This seems port problem. Try to start SDM Server manually from the command prompt. Don't double click directly on SDMServer.bat. Open command prompt and execute SDMServer.bat. This should show exact error immediately.

Hi Priya,
Have a look in the log files:
/usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE>/work/dev_*
/usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE>/SDM/log/sdmlog<latest_date>.log
/usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE>/j2ee/cluster/server<N>/log/defaultTrace.trc
You should definitely find detailed information about the problems and errors there.
Hope that helps!
Vladimir

Hi Vladimir
Thank you for the reply. I checked the following file:
/usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE>/SDM/log/sdmlog<latest_date>.log
This is what the file contains.

I cant figure out what exactly is the problem.
I tried restarting the SDM server alone but its of no use. It is getting initialized but not starting whatsoever. Is there any other alternative?

Priya
Hi Priya,
It happend to us atleast twice in the past; We have to reinstall the WAS. Please try this option. Sometimes it hangs more than 2-3 hours, then just go and start the J2EE engine manually and then it will continue with the installation.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kumar
I have tried every possibility. Started the server instance manually, restarted cluster, the entire machine. But the problem still persists. The other major issue is that now i am not start the server at all. the SDM server is simply not starting. Is uninstalling the only solution?
Regards
Priya
