BPC for Netweaver Users / BPC_SYSADMIN

Hi Experts,

I have to install BPC 7.5 for NW (7.0 EhP1 SP06) and the .NET Server on a Windows 2008 Server.

Before launching my installation, I have some questions about user definitions in ABAP and .NET systems.

1/ In the install guide, you have to create 3 users using su01 (BPC_SYSADMIN, BPC_ADMIN and BPC_USER) in tha ABAP sytem.

2/ After this, we have to use UJA3_WRITE_SYS_USERS program to update UJA_SVR_DEFAULT table.

Should we give users created in 1/ or new users (windows users) ?

3/ Is there any link between BPC_SYSADMIN user and the user used to install .NET server component? Should we create a BPC_SYSADMIN user under Windows in order to do this installation? Or should we use a windows user to install .NET Server component (the one that we have to record inside UJA_SVR_DEFAULT table?

4/ Which user is used to run BPC Server Manager ?

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

The ABAP users don't have anything to do with the Windows users. They are used for connecting the .NET server to the ABAP backend.

The user that you assign on UJA3_WRITE_SYS_USERS is the Windows user that is going to manager Server Manager. Server Manager checks the UJA_SVR_DEFAULT table when starting to validate if the user is the admin or not. Please notice that this user should be entered in the DOMAIN\user format. It's recommended that you give administrative right to this user on the server and also use it to install BPC (not mandatory, though).

You should use the Windows user assigned on UJA3_WRITE_SYS_USERS as the BPCSYSADMIN to run Server Manager.

Hope this helps.

Hi Rodrigo,

thanks.

Two more questions.

I notice that we have to give 3 users (Planing and Consolidation System Administrator Use, Administration Usrr and User) in UJA_SVR_DEFAULT table.

Could we have the same user in these differents fields?

Which one should we user for installation?

At the end of the .NET server installation, we have to enter System Administrator, Administrator and User users IDs (for the ABAP service uses). I thinks that, this time, we talk about ABAP users created in SU01?

The diffuculty is that ABAP users and .NET server users have the same denomination (system admin, admin and user).

Chris

Hi Chris! For DEV I used the same user as installation for all three options in UJA_SVR_DEFAULT.

The ABAP server users you use in .NET server are the ones that you created in SU01, correct.

I recommend to assign SAP_ALL profile for user BPC_SYSADMIN at least until you done with installation and initial setup.

I think there's not much usage of UJA_SVR_DEFAULT table entries after you start using your own security with your own local/domain users.

Thanks Vadim

In order to not lose time, I need to install .NET server this week and BPC add-on on Netweaver in two weeks.

Is it possible to begin by .NET server component?

Hi Chris,

I advise you to install the ABAP add-on first, and then install the .NET server. There's actually no problem in installing the .NET server first, but it would be easier for you to spot any problems, since you need the ABAP side installed for the diagnostics tool to work appropriately.

Hi Rodrigo,

may be I could just install .NET server without launch diagnostics tool (that is the admin client??)?

Hi Chris,

Sure, you can install it in the order you prefer, and even run the diagnostics tool, there's no problem it that (it will fail, obviously, for not reaching the ABAP server). The diag feature is present in BPC Server Manager.

Hi Rodrigo,

thanks.

So I suppose that I don't need to install the Admin client to use BPC Server Manager?

BPC Server Manager is included into the .NET server component installation?
